SYC Mentorship Program
Are you a graduate from a post secondary institution in Calgary, with 2 or more years of experience working in your area of study? Would you like a chance to share your learnings with a current post-secondary student aspiring to pursue a similar career as you?
Are you a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student studying at a post secondary institution in Calgary, with a desire to gain a deeper and more applicable understanding of your current courses, potential career paths, job requirements, and much more?
If you answered yes to either of the above questions - SYC Mentorship is the perfect program for you!
As a Sikh Professional, this is your chance to do some great seva - share your learnings, work experiences and jewels of advice with current post-secondary students studying to pursue a career similar to yours. As a post-secondary student, this is your opportunity to talk to somebody about the burning questions on your mind - what will you be DOING after you get your degree? Where can you go with your knowledge? What are the opportunities out there that you have the potential of pursuing? What might your day to day job activities look like?
SYC Mentorship is a community based, mentorship program of Sikh Youth Calgary. The program encourages existing and aspiring Sikh professionals to share insight and knowledge of their prospective and current career paths; in turn, working collaboratively to build a healthy and strong community. Through this program, participants have the opportunity to establish and build an active alumni network.
Every year, a group of individuals representing varying professions are paired with a post-secondary student pursuing a similar career. SYC Mentorship is currently looking for individuals who are committed to using this program for its every benefit. A minimum commitment of 2 hours per month are required from both mentors and mentees.
If you would like be a Mentor, please email the following information to mentorship.syc@gmail.com:
Name, Post Secondary Institution Attended, Degree Obtained (Field of Study), Year of Graduation, Current Employer, Job Position and Years of Experience.
If you are a student, and would like be a Mentee, please fill out the attached Application Form, and submit to mentorship.syc@gmail.com. Deadline to apply is December 15, 2009
Please submit your application as soon as possible, as they will be processed on a first-come-first serve basis. SYC Mentorship will contact you about your application after December 2009. Once appropriate pairings have been made, further details and packages will be provided to all participants prior to the Welcome Dinner (January 2010).
